Sleep deprivation and weight gain

Sleep deprivation and weight gain

There’s a huge link between sleep deprivation and weigh gain….and it’s got to do with your hormonal balance!

The following hormones are linked to both eating and sleeping: Ghrelin and Leptin

Let’s talk about Ghrelin,  which is responsible for letting your body know when it’s hungry. Then, there’s leptin which is the one that pretty much let’s your know when it’s full. In other words, Ghrelin says “Eat” and Leptin says “Stop eating.” So, if these two are well balanced, you’ll feel hungry when the body needs food and you’ll stop once it’s full.

However, if they are NOT, then you may feel hungry even though your body does not require calories and will not feel full once your body is filled with nutrients.

But, how does lack of sleep play a role in this equation? Here is the thing, if you’re tired and lacking energy, your body craves foods that can serve as stimulants such as those high in sugar and fat….get it?

Also, sleep is the time in which your body recovers, balances all hormones and properly maintains every system.

Therefore, if you’re trying to loose weight but can’t control your cravings, try sleeping more. I guarantee you’ll feel immediate results.

Adriana Martin
